Personalization of leather products: laser engraving vs. embossing.

Laser engraving or embossing

Leather is a fascinating material, especially if you, like us at club tags– regionally produced and vegetable-tanned leather is used.

Because then, each hide is unique. Colors can vary, and leather thicknesses can vary slightly. Sometimes the leather is a little softer, sometimes a little more durable. The fewer chemicals used in the tanning process, the lower the repeatability. Leather is a natural product. If your leather couch at home or your leather jacket looks like plastic, there's a good reason for that.

We personalize many of our leather products, for example, with golf club or company logos or with our customers' names. We use two different processes: laser engraving and embossing.

Laser engraving is a digital processing technique that allows us to produce small quantities and individual pieces without tooling costs. It's fast and efficient. You may have seen us live at an event like the Porsche European Open. There, we engrave individual names on-site. Scorecard holder or Ball MarkersLaser engraving provides razor-sharp contrast, making it ideal for even complex logos.

Embossing is a traditional mechanical process. Using a negative stamp and an embossing press (and a bit of muscle power), logos are embossed into the leather. An embossing stamp, for example, for a scorecard case, costs around €150,00. This one-time cost is only worthwhile if you want to produce series with identical motifs. We often do this for clubs and companies. Simple text logos with strong contours are particularly suitable for embossing. A logo embossed into leather looks elegant and is just as durable as a laser engraving. Embossing individual names is possible, but time-consuming and expensive.

In our workshop in Valluhn, northern Germany, between Hamburg and Schwerin, we can refine leather using both embossing and laser engraving.
